Making Lobster Bisque at Home

While making lobster bisque may sound intimidating, it's certainly something you can prepare in the comfort of your own kitchen, though if you did want to have a kitchen-free bisque experience, we 100% recommend Cousins Maine Lobster Bisque. For the more adventurous home chef, here's a basic recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

2 lobster tails

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 onion, chopped

2 carrots, chopped

2 celery stalks, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup tomato paste

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup sherry or brandy

4 cups seafood stock

(Homemade Seafood Stock Recipe: Ina Garten's Seafood Stock Recipe)

2 cups heavy cream

Salt and pepper to taste

Chopped chives or parsley for garnish

 2 Red Lobsters Cooked

Instructions:

Start by cooking the lobster tails. You can either steam or boil them until the shells turn red and the meat is opaque. Remove the meat from the shells, chop it into small pieces, and set it aside.

In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onions, carrots, celery, and garlic, and sauté until the vegetables are soft and the onions are translucent.

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for a couple of minutes until it darkens in color.

Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and cook, stirring constantly, for about 3-4 minutes. This will help thicken the soup.

If you choose to use sherry or brandy, add it to the pot and cook for another couple of minutes, allowing the alcohol to evaporate.

Pour in the seafood stock and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Use an immersion blender or transfer the mixture to a regular blender to purée the soup until it's smooth.

Return the soup to the pot, add the heavy cream, and the chopped lobster meat. Simmer for a few more minutes to heat through.

Season the bisque with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve your lobster bisque hot, garnished with chopped chives or parsley for an extra touch of elegance.
