Alexandra C. Daley-Clark for The New York Times

Classic New England Favorite, indulge in a bowl of our favorite lobster bisque for a satisfying and comforting experience.  Fishermen in Maine will tell you, there’s nothing like lobster bisque to warm you up on a cold day.  With a silky smooth texture, lobster bisque has a delicious depth and rich lobster flavor. A seafood delicacy that satisfies your taste buds. It wraps you in a comforting embrace, perfect for keeping you warm on cold days, like our classic Navy Jane lobster sweater, embodying quintessential New England Style.

Tradition Meets A Culinary Favorite

Lobster bisque's popularity in New England can be attributed to the region's historical ties to lobster, its maritime heritage, strong culinary sophistication, and the availability of fresh lobster. As a result, lobster bisque has become a favorite and significant part of New England's culinary culture. Food has a unique way of connecting us to our memories and traditions.  Lobster bisque has a longstanding history attached to it. So, set sail with a bowl of creamy lobster bisque in the comfort of New England traditions, and the warm embrace of a knitted lobster sweater, while enjoying seafaring tales.

Historic Homage

Lobster bisque is deeply intertwined with the maritime legacy of New England. Renowned for its warmth and savory allure, each spoonful pays homage to the resilient seafarers who battled tempestuous seas, and daring explorers who navigated uncharted Atlantic waters.  As winter settles in, lobster bisque is a culinary delight, underscoring seafaring life’s resilience and camaraderie.  It’s a nod to the enduring spirit of New England's maritime past.  Encapsulated in a bowl of lobster bisque is a rich, creamy warmth, akin to the embrace of a beloved lobster design sweater.  It provides a delightful and heartening experience while paying tribute to the rich history of the sea.  This stands as a testament to the endurance and bravery of those who sailed New England's coastal waters.

Making Lobster Bisque at Home

While making lobster bisque may sound intimidating, it's certainly something you can prepare in the comfort of your own kitchen, though if you did want to have a kitchen-free bisque experience, we 100% recommend Cousins Maine Lobster Bisque. For the more adventurous home chef, here's a basic recipe to get you started:

2 lobster tails

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 onion, chopped

2 carrots, chopped

2 celery stalks, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup tomato paste

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup sherry or brandy

4 cups seafood stock

(Homemade Seafood Stock Recipe: Ina Garten's Seafood Stock Recipe)

2 cups heavy cream

Salt and pepper to taste

Chopped chives or parsley for garnish

 2 Red Lobsters Cooked

Start by cooking the lobster tails. You can either steam or boil them until the shells turn red and the meat is opaque. Remove the meat from the shells, chop it into small pieces, and set it aside.

In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onions, carrots, celery, and garlic, and sauté until the vegetables are soft and the onions are translucent.

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for a couple of minutes until it darkens in color.

Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and cook, stirring constantly, for about 3-4 minutes. This will help thicken the soup.

If you choose to use sherry or brandy, add it to the pot and cook for another couple of minutes, allowing the alcohol to evaporate.

Pour in the seafood stock and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Use an immersion blender or transfer the mixture to a regular blender to purée the soup until it's smooth.

Return the soup to the pot, add the heavy cream, and the chopped lobster meat. Simmer for a few more minutes to heat through.

Season the bisque with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve your lobster bisque hot, garnished with chopped chives or parsley for an extra touch of elegance.
